First game in 8 days after a bunch of cancellations thanks to the combination of SNOWvid! (Snow, poor weather and Covid) Oh and Wee Nicola !
A now regular trip for us as we take in our 9th Blackburn United Amateur game. Albion Rovers U21s would be the challenge for today in the ALL IN CUP! (sounds very AEW) This is a first for us in this competition, with not alot known about it by us as of yet.
THE GROUND
Purdie Worldwide Community Stadium once again for us, never away from this place. Nice set up, plastic pitch, great to see the AMS allowed to use it more regularly now.
THE PREDICTION
Having never seen Albion Rovers U21s before, we did a bit of online research/stalking to size up the competition. We noticed they had some really high scoring results recently including a 25-0, this with the knowledge Blackburn were missing their two goalkeepers, we picked them as our choice to win. Little did we know Pedro Schmeichel would step up lol.
DOWN TO THE ACTION!
Not what we expected to be honest, thought Rovers would be in more control of the game with majority of the chances. What we got was a well organised, solid looking Blackburn who had the best chances. Rovers did come close on a few other occassions, with Pedro up to the challenge with a few really good saves.
It would take a decent long range strike from Rovers to get it back to 1-1 after Blackburn had taken the lead. The second half Blackburn would once again go in front, this time via a corner taking it to 2-1. It could and maybe should have been 3-1 Blackburn as the No. 9 got through 1 on 1 only to see his shot cannon back of the crossbar, unlucky but a missed opportunity to seal the win. Not long after this Rovers would pull it back to 2-2 after being awarded a penalty, which the Blackburn keeper almost saved.
Full time saw it all even and so it went straight to penalties (love a penalty Shootout)
PENALTIES - Watch VIDEO in Full here...
Rovers 1st - GOAL
Blackburn 1st - Saved but had to be retaken as keeper off his line
Blackburn 1st again - GOAL
Rovers 2nd - Saved but had to be retaken as keeper off his line
Rovers 2nd again - GOAL
Blackburn 2nd - GOAL
Rovers 3rd - GOAL
Blackburn 3rd - GOAL
Rovers 4th - SAVED
Blackburn 4th - GOAL
Rovers 5th - MISSED
Was unlucky for the Rovers keeper as one save was disallowed and two very near saves after that, decent keeper!
IN CLOSING
All in all it was great being back at football after 8 whole days (Was starting to suffer withdrawals AGAIN! lol) cracking result for Blackburn as they head into the next round.
After the game the Blackburn No.9 came over near us and mentioned a sitter he missed from about 6 yards in another game that was captured on drone footage. (Would love to see that footage if anyone has it or a link cheers)
Turnstiles and Terraces - MAN OF THE MATCH
Easy one here, stepped up as cover and did the job for the two unavailable Blackburn keepers.. A few good saves during the game and 2 penalty saves during shootout, even if only one of them counted ;) well in!
No CHIPADVISOR for this one :( as back playing football this week and need to lose some of the festive man boobs a bit lol.
