BIGGEST CUP SHOCK IN HISTORY? - JUST 90 MINUTES? - Mick Kennedy Masterclass!
The biggest cup shock in the Scottish Cup and all of Scottish football?
The biggest shock for everyone was exactly how good Darvel were, the facilities, the pitch, the support, the team and the manager. On paper this was a huge mismatch, in reality it was a reflection of the failure of the pyramid in Scottish football.
Aberdeen from the 3rd biggest city in Scotland (nearly 200,000 people) the 3rd biggest club in the country who have the exposure, the following, the history and the Millionaire owner. On paper they should have steam rolled the small club from the small town that you can walk through in 20 minutes.
But as the old cliche goes the game isn't played on paper! boy are we grateful for this. Even as the big luxury team bus rolled up outside the ground, Dave Cormack heading in all suited and booted, the players looking like stars, you couldn't shake the strong sense that tonight was Darvels night.
Michael Kennedy looked so calm, so welcoming, even coming and shaking my hand... he had this! The big occassion wasn't going to overwhelm him, his strong presense playing a huge part on how calm and controlled his players looked on the field. His demeanor carrying over to everyone at the club, a true leader in every sense.
When I seen his pre match team talk online, you can't help but be inspired, this team, this club this whole town is in good hands. Click here!
Usually games like this end up backs against the wall football, all out defending with only the hope of a counter attack, or a mistake to get a goal and hang on. Darvel don't do scripts, they came to play football, they got the ball down and played it about with real quality, the players played with incredible bravery and intensity, only near the end of the game did it become a case of hanging on for the final whistle.
The nerves in the crowd around me were intense, like that final fifteen minutes of a hard working week before you get to go home, it seemed like forever... Life is short? not when yer team is holding on for the biggest win in its history! At that moment time seemed to stop, life seemed eternal... but with the whistle reaching the referees lips it was the players who became imortal, forever cemented in Scottish Football history.
In closing
This was a great night both personally as a fan of football and professionally for TnT thanks to Darvel who made it possible to cover the game. A great moment seeing our logo on the Media Partners graphic and being listed on the socials alongside huge media outlets and some really quality content creators I watch like Sam North and Blair McNally.
Apologies for how late this match report is, ended up with Covid... again😷
Sam North from Footy Adventures was there and he was nice enough to do a shout out for Mason. A really nice guy check out his coverage of the game here, really setting the standards in Scotland.Blair McNally also did a video you should check out. Click Here!

An incredible night that will live forever in the memories of the Darvel fans, community and players. Stories handed down over generations of when the WoSFL team in the 6th tier knock out the giants from the premier league.
Thank you Darvel for letting me come and be a little part of what was such an unforgetable game💙
