Groundhop Day - Saturday 26th December 2020 - WILL I EVER SEE A GOAL?

Lothian Thistle HV 0 Vs 3 Banks O'Dee

Groundhop Day - Saturday 26th December 2020 - KO 15:00
Competition - Scottish Cup 1st round

THE STADIUM
This game wasn't played at Lothian Thistles home ground, but was moved to the Spaghettihad, home of Livingston. (check blog for previous Livingston trips and information)

THE HOME CLUB
Lothian Thistle were technically the home team, but the game was played on a neutral ground.

Oringinally planning to head to the game at Camelon, but due to tighter restrictions we decide more local was best.

The last game with Hamilton Vs Livi was a nightmare with no decent views from outside the stadium. The bonus with this gound is that you can see most of the pitch and one set of goals from the hill. HOWEVER at the last game here, the two goals against Ross county in the league cup were in the goals we couldn't see. SURELY this wouldn't happen again lol

Well... we did get most of the action, though we missed the challenge that had Lothian Thistle keeper sent off. We did see the sub GK come on and save a penalty. Click here for clip <<<

It was a miserable, wet and cold night. The second half saw us move to a different vantage point so we could see the opposite set of goals, as it looked most likely that Banks O'Dee would score.

We were right! and so now should have seen the 3 goals scored on the night... but wait...NAW!

We were settled in our new spot anticipating a goal coming, when a yellow ball came over the stadium. I went over to get it, when a guy came out. I kicked the ball towards him (yep kicked an official Scottish cup ball in a Livi car park, some claim to fame lol) in fairness it was a decent pass in a pair of boots. I am sure the guy who came to collect the ball would agree.

On the way back to my viewing spot through the gates, I heard celebrations! NOW f'#*1%g WAY! it happened again, now 3 goals score at this venue in two games and ZERO seen.

Not a great view through the gates I think you would agree and why would it be lol. But lack of view combined with an ice wind blowing in your face when looking through, had the best of my mate who headed to his car with 25 minute to go.

I hung in, refusing to let the curse of this venue or the weather get the better of me. only minutes remaining, freezing I saw a man approach. Oh geez the covid police I assumed. Nope it was the young Lothian Thistle goalkeepers dad. As he approached he asked about the view, I mentioned you could see from the other side of gate ...and..... GOAL! I missed it again!

I nearly gave up, but had a chat now with 'The dad' (never did exchange names). Now though I kept my face glued to the game and just as I said how well his son had done GOAL 3-0 and FINALLY I see one goal from 5 in two games. Felt bad for the young Goalkeeper, but I deserved this lol.

Decent game, terrible weather, the jinx ends and another hop in the bag. Banks O'Dee on the way to the next round!

Not much to say about stadium as said before, covid kills one of the great aspects of groundhopping, the crowds and atmospheres. No program once again, but to be fair not expected given current situation.

(All in all a decent view given the circumstances, cannot wait to be back in)
(Testing out my other camera, better zoom than phone, blurry due to being freezin and no monopod)
